Would you like to escape to the country for the weekend, but you’ve done the rounds of the traditional accommodation? Are you looking for an original formula that gives a change-of-scene? Look no further: Mongolia and its traditional housing is open to you just 1 hour from Paris, heading Cys-la-Commune a few kilometres from Soissons!!!
Evelyne and Dominique Oblet welcome you to their farm: 3 yurts are available for you. “What’s a yurt?” I hear you ask. The Mongolian yurt or ger in Mongolian, is the traditional house of the Mongol people.
These houses, still used today, have been constructed in the same fashion for generations. The interior of the yurt is extremely well organised for gatherings. It is a cosy space that is cool in summer and warm in winter. These houses, by way of their construction and their design, allow traditional aspects of nomadic life to be combined with the modern advantage of comfort and conviviality.
The yurts are built on a floor.
The inside of a yurt is arranged with small-sized pieces of wooden furniture.
The yurts comprise 2, 3 or 4 beds laid out along the edges. These beds are fairly high, narrow and the central panel linking the head of the bed to its foot means it resembles more a deep chair, which is indeed its daytime function.
A Mongolian yurt is a wood and felt structure. In the centre you will find a low table and stools.
Carpets are laid on the floor in order to improve insulation.
The yurt has therefore become the mobile home of the nomads of Central Asia, a sort of slightly cumbersome tent, more or less enormous and more or less cosy, the main characteristic of which is to be quick to pitch and strike, solid and resistant to the wind and other bad weather for years.
The yurts of Cys-la-Commune and their furniture were made in the tradition fashion in Ulan-Bator in Mongolia. The only break with tradition: they are equipped with electric heating in order to ensure the safety and comfort of young children.
Convinced? Then dare to be original!
